Assam Assembly Elections to be Held on April 9; Counting on May 4


Guwahati, March 15: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, with polling for all 126 constituencies set to take place in a single phase on April 9, 2026.
According to the schedule released by the Commission, the gazette notification for the elections will be issued on March 16, marking the official start of the electoral process. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for March 23, while the scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on March 24.
Candidates will have time until March 26 to withdraw their nominations.
Polling across the state will be held on April 9 (Thursday), and the counting of votes will take place on May 4 (Monday). The entire election process is scheduled to be completed before May 6.
The announcement has set the stage for political parties to intensify their campaign activities across Assam. Major parties are expected to begin candidate selection and campaign planning in the coming days as the state gears up for the crucial electoral contest.
The upcoming elections will determine the composition of the next Legislative Assembly in Assam and are expected to witness intense competition among the state’s major political parties.
