Hills Live News Desk
Haflong, April 7:
With campaigning concluded for Assam’s 126 Legislative Assembly seats, the spotlight falls on Dima Hasao’s lone 113-Haflong constituency, where three candidates—Nandita Gorlosa (INC), Rupali Langthasa (BJP), and Daniel Langthasa (NPP)—vie for victory. On April 9, 158,204 voters will decide their fate.
BJP’s Rupali Langthasa energized supporters with large rallies across the district in recent weeks. Congress’s Nandita Gorlosa focused on door-to-door outreach in villages, capping her campaign with a massive rally in Haflong that drew thousands. NPP’s Daniel Langthasa, meanwhile, connected with voters through targeted pocket meetings.
Polling preparations are in full swing, with 261 stations set up district-wide. Authorities have deployed 13 Zonal Officers, 68 Sector Officers, and 1,252 polling officials to ensure free, fair, and transparent voting. Round-the-clock election cells monitor logistics, security, and voter support, backed by 14 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
District Election Officer Gayatri Hyalinge shared updates: 11 stations identified as “shadow polling stations” will feature webcasting and micro-observers, while 67 vulnerable stations get extra security. Teams for 23 far-flung stations have already departed.
To facilitate safe movement and avoid accidents, two schools in high-traffic areas will close on April 8 during official transit. Haflong will host one model polling station and 15 all-women polling stations.
Notably, 258 voters aged 85+ or with disabilities have cast ballots via postal voting, enabled by the Election Commission of India’s “Home Voting” facility.
