Diphu, April 9:

Despite challenging weather conditions, voter turnout has been remarkably high across the three autonomous hill districts of Assam—Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. While polling began at a slower pace, brisk participation was observed by noon, driving up the overall percentage.

In Diphu constituency, polling continued into the evening at several stations, raising expectations that the final tally could touch 78%. As of 5:00 p.m., Howraghar LAC reported 76.11%, while Bokajan recorded 77.35%.

In West Karbi Anglong, Rongkhang LAC registered 74.82% by 5:00 p.m., with figures likely to rise further in the final computation. The newly formed Amri constituency reported 70.48% turnout, a figure initially considered lower than anticipated but expected to climb after the closing count.

The strong voter participation has boosted confidence among the ruling party of retaining all six seats in the region. However, candidates from the Congress–APHLC alliance remain optimistic, expressing hopes of securing at least three seats in these autonomous hill districts.
