Banyan Tree Sapling Planted in Pobitora to Honor Zubeen Garg at Iconic Song Shooting Location

Hills Live News, POBITORA, Assam .Sept 19: In a tribute to Zubeen Garg’s contributions to promoting tourism and biodiversity in Assam, a banyan tree sapling was planted at the iconic site where the artist filmed the first music video inside Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

The initiative commemorates Garg’s musical and visual portrayal of the region through the classic song “Run Jun Nupure Mate”. Written by the late Kailash Nath Sarma, the track featured vocals, music composition, and an on-screen appearance by Garg.

Recalling the artist’s deep association with the sanctuary, Tourism entertainer Nirud Mani Pandey—recognized as one of the key figures who originally connected Garg with Pobitora—alongside young Namraa Surya, jointly planted the banyan sapling following traditional Vedic rituals.

The ceremony took place on the open stretch near Haduk Beel along the Mayong–Sonapur State Highway. Local residents noted that planting the sapling at this historic shooting location fulfills a vision for ecological preservation and honors Garg’s lasting connection to Pobitora’s natural heritage
