Diphu, March 31:
The Agriculture Department in West Karbi Anglong has come under sharp scrutiny following reports of large-scale wastage of mustard crops cultivated under its supervision. The development has triggered swift action from departmental officials after the issue was highlighted in the media.
According to sources, mustard cultivated over nearly 60 bighas of land for the benefit of local farmers was left unattended in the fields, leading to the crop rotting and going to waste. The incident sparked widespread concern among farmers, who depend on such initiatives for their livelihood.
Soon after the reports surfaced, officials and staff of the department were seen collecting the damaged mustard from the fields, indicating a hurried response to the criticism.
Farmers in the region have alleged negligence and lack of accountability, pointing fingers at the District Agriculture Officer, Tapan Dutta. They claim that poor planning and mismanagement led to the situation, causing significant losses.
