Morigaon (Assam): Feb.13. In a significant push toward strengthening community support for tuberculosis (TB) patients, Anamika Tewari, District Commissioner of Morigaon, has spearheaded a district-wide mobilisation under the Government of India’s Nikshay Mitra initiative.

Demonstrating proactive administrative leadership, Tewari has personally engaged departmental heads across Morigaon to adopt and support TB patients through nutritional and social assistance. Officials confirmed that nearly all major government departments in the district have stepped forward to contribute resources and extend sustained care to beneficiaries.

The campaign has also drawn robust participation from civil society and industry. Alumni collective SMC’89, social organisation PRERANA IASOWA, and the Tata Semiconductor Unit at Jagiroad have joined hands with the district administration to provide nutritional kits and financial assistance to TB patients enrolled under the programme.

Officials noted that Morigaon’s model reflects a whole-of-society approach to TB elimination, aligning administrative machinery with community goodwill and corporate participation. Health authorities believe such coordinated support is critical to improving treatment adherence and recovery outcomes among patients, particularly in rural and economically vulnerable settings.

District health teams reported that the expanding pool of Nikshay Mitras in Morigaon is helping bridge nutritional gaps faced by TB patients, reinforcing the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis. Under Tewari’s stewardship, Morigaon is emerging as a leading district in Assam for citizen-driven participation in TB care initiatives.

Local stakeholders have lauded the administration’s inclusive outreach, calling it an example of how district-level leadership can translate national public health missions into tangible community action.
