Corrections Policy

At Hills Live, we strive for 100% accuracy in every report. Our commitment to our readers is that when we make a mistake, we will correct it promptly and transparently.

We believe that correcting an error is not a sign of weakness, but a hallmark of journalistic integrity. We do not “shadow edit” (change a story quietly without notifying the reader). We ensure that the record is set straight so that our archives remain a reliable source of history for the indigenous communities of Assam.

We encourage our readers, community members, and officials to alert us to potential inaccuracies.

Subject Line: Please use “Correction Request: [Headline of the Article]”
Required Info: Please provide the link to the story, the specific fact you believe is wrong, and any supporting evidence or documentation.

The Correction Process
Once a report of an error is received:

Verification: The Editorial Team cross-checks the claim against primary sources and the reporter’s original notes.
Assessment: We determine if the error is Factual (wrong dates, names, or statistics) or Grammatical (typos that do not change the meaning).
Action: If a factual error is confirmed, we update the content immediately across all platforms (Website, Facebook, Instagram descriptions).

We maintain transparency, we use specific labels for changes made to a story:

CORRECTION: Used for significant factual errors. A note will be appended to the top or bottom of the article explaining what the original error was and what the correct information is.
CLARIFICATION: Used when the facts are technically correct, but the phrasing was misleading or lacked necessary context.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Used for major updates, such as when a story has been significantly altered due to new evidence or legal developments.
REVISION: Used for minor typos or formatting issues that do not change the facts of the story. These do not usually require a formal note.

Social Media & Video Corrections
YouTube: If a video contains a significant error, we will pin a “Correction” comment at the top of the comments section or add an “Info Card” within the video. If the error is egregious, the video will be taken down and a corrected version re-uploaded.
Facebook/Instagram: We will edit the caption to include “CORRECTION:” at the top and, if necessary, post a follow-up graphic to ensure the correct information reaches the same audience.

Retractions
In the rare event that a story is found to be fundamentally flawed or based on fraudulent information, Hills Live will issue a full Retraction. The content will be removed, and a “Retraction Notice” will be published in its place explaining the decision.
