Veteran Diphu-based journalist Sushanta Roy was honoured by the Bengal Sahitya Kala & Culture Parishad on the 26th Republic Day, marking nearly three decades of unwavering commitment to ethical journalism and public interest.

Roy’s career has paralleled the growth of regional journalism in Assam. Known for his fearless reporting, he has consistently exposed corruption, social injustices, and grassroots issues, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities despite challenging circumstances.

He has contributed to leading media outlets including United News of India (UNI), The Assam Tribune, prominent Hindi dailies in Assam, and international platforms like News Blaze Australia. His work is widely respected for its credibility, balance, and social relevance.

Beyond journalism, Roy has actively championed environmental and social causes. As a former Wildlife Warden, he played a key role in conservation efforts, reflecting his broader dedication to public service.

Dalim Phukan

Dalim Phukan is a senior broadcast journalist based in Assam, in the culturally rich and diverse North East region of India. He currently serves as a Senior Journalist with The Assam Tribune, one of the most respected English-language newspapers in the region. In addition, he holds the position of Senior Correspondent for All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan News (DD News), contributing significantly to both national and regional media landscapes.

With extensive experience across multiple platforms—including print, television, and digital media—Phukan has demonstrated remarkable versatility and commitment to journalistic excellence. His insightful reporting and compelling storytelling have earned him widespread recognition.

Phukan is also an accomplished author. He has penned two notable books: On a Reporter’s Track (in English), which offers a reflective journey through his experiences in journalism, and Sangbadar Are Are (in Assamese), a celebrated work that resonates deeply with regional readers.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Dalim Phukan was honored with the prestigious Best Reporter Award by Prasar Bharati in 2012 at a national ceremony held in Mumbai.

Joyram Kathar, a resident of Kheroni in Karbi Anglong district, has been associated with Hills Live for more than a decade. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a sincere, dedicated, and honest journalist with a strong commitment to ethical reporting.

Known for his unbiased approach, Kathar has consistently highlighted issues affecting local communities, governance, and public interest. His reporting reflects ground realities and gives voice to people from both rural and urban areas of the district. A graduate in Geography, he combines academic insight with a strong design sensibility, bringing clarity and impact to his work across print and digital platforms.

Born and brought up in Guwahati, Sarmah has a deep understanding of the region’s social and cultural landscape, which often reflects in his design approach. He has been associated with Tribal Voice for more than a decade, where his creative contributions have played a key role in shaping the publication’s visual identity and outreach.

Known for his consistency, adaptability, and eye for detail, Nayan Jyoti Sarmah continues to contribute meaningfully to media and communication through design that informs, engages, and connects with people.

 Anup Kumar Biswas

Anup Kumar Biswas has dedicated 35 years to reporting in the Dima Hasao district of Assam, formerly known as North Cachar Hills (NCHills). Starting his career around 1990, he worked with several regional newspapers, including The North East Times, The Assam Tribune, The Sentinel covering the unique socio-political landscape of this autonomous hill district. Over his long career, Biswas has not only chronicled the region’s events but also deeply connected with the remote communities, reflecting a commitment to bringing their stories to wider audiences.

His reporting spanned crucial periods marked by insurgency, demand for autonomy, and social transformation in Dima Hasao. Besides traditional print journalism, Anup Kumar Biswas expanded into digital media by starting “Hills Live TV” on YouTube, Tribal Voice, a weekly from Haflong further amplifying awareness and news coverage for local issues. His work also extended beyond journalism, as he actively participated in social awareness campaigns, notably on health issues like cancer awareness in the district.

Through decades of steadfast dedication, Anup Kumar Biswas has become a prominent voice representing the diverse voices and challenges of Dima Hasao, making significant contributions to documenting the region’s history, politics, and culture for over three decades.
