Panic Buying as Residents Queue for Cooking Gas in Haflong

Hills live News Desk

Haflong, March 13: Despite repeated assurances from the concerned authorities regarding the availability of cooking gas, panic among residents was clearly visible on Friday as large numbers of people gathered at gas agencies in Haflong since early morning.
Long queues were seen outside gas distribution counters, with residents waiting for hours to collect their LPG cylinders. Many people expressed concern that even though authorities have assured that there is sufficient stock at present, there could be an acute shortage in the near future.
Several residents also pointed out that recent procedural changes in the distribution system have added to the inconvenience. According to the new practice, the registered consumer must be physically present at the gas counter to collect the cylinder, which has made the process more difficult for many families.
The situation has led to growing anxiety among consumers, prompting them to rush to gas agencies to secure their supply in advance. Authorities, however, have urged the public not to panic and assured that necessary steps are being taken to ensure regular supply of cooking gas in the town.
