Relief Materials Distributed to Hailstorm-Affected Families in Umrangso

Haflong, March 16: The District Disaster Management authorities of Dima Hasao distributed relief materials to families affected by the hailstorm that struck the Umrangso area on March 12, 2026.

According to official sources, the sudden hailstorm caused significant damage in three villages—Puralangso, Chirilangso and Boro Larpheng—affecting a total of 76 houses. Following the incident, officials carried out house visits and damage assessments in the affected villages to evaluate the extent of the losses.

As part of the immediate relief measures, 79 tarpaulins were distributed to the affected families in the respective villages on March 13 to provide temporary shelter.

Further assistance was provided on March 15, when 672 GI roofing sheets were distributed to 42 severely affected households at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Haflong.

The distribution programme was carried out in the presence of the Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the District Project Officer of DDMA, field officers of DDMA, members of the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF), CQRT members and the Gaon Burhas of the affected villages.

Officials said the relief materials were provided to help families repair their damaged houses and cope with the aftermath of the hailstorm.
