Remembering Mahapurush Madhavdev on His Tirobhav Tithi

Hills Live News, Guwahati, Sept 1: Today marks the Tirobhav Tithi of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhavdev. Mahapurush Madhavdev, the foremost disciple of Mahapurush Sri Sri Sankardev and the principal propagator of the Vaishnavite faith introduced by Gurujana, has always been accorded by Assamese society the same profound importance and reverence as Gurujana himself. This was stated by BJP State President Dilip Saikia. Nearly 500 years ago, a new spiritual awakening arose across India. Simultaneously, the seeds of a similar spiritual renaissance also began to germinate in Assam. Through the introduction of Ek-Sarana-Nam-Dharma, Gurujana endeavoured to bind people belonging to every section of society with a single bond of unity. To translate this endeavour of Gurujana into reality, Mahapurush Madhavdev, possessed of a penetrating intellect, an erudite scholar, accomplished writer, dramatist and gifted singer, devoted himself wholeheartedly and with complete spiritual dedication. Vaishnavism cannot be confined merely within the boundaries of religious belief. It was a reformative movement, and Mahapurush Madhavdev carried this movement forward in its rightful direction. The intrinsic objective underlying this silent spiritual movement was to eradicate distinctions of caste and social hierarchy from society, to build a bridge of harmony among all religious communities, castes and ethnic groups, and to establish a democratic social order founded upon equal dignity for all. So long as the tradition of discrimination between the high and the low continues to exist in society, the relevance of Vaishnavism shall continue to endure. The literary creations of Mahapurush Madhavdev, the foremost propagator of the Vaishnavite movement, are equally remarkable. Just as Bhakti Ratnavali, the translations of Adikanda Ramayana and Nam Malika stand as incomparable literary works of Gurujana, in the same manner “Rajasuya Yajna” and “Janma Rahasya” are also among the significant literary creations of Mahapurush Madhavdev. But “Namghosa” remains the immortal creation of the Mahapurush. Likewise, the creation of nearly 200 Borgeets constitutes an incomparable contribution of the Mahapurush to the social and cultural life of Assam. Even nearly 450 years after the demise of the Mahapurush, the esteem for his creations has not diminished; rather, their study, practice and propagation have continued to expand. Therefore, it may be stated without hesitation that so long as Assamese society lives, the creations and deeds of the Mahapurush shall continue to live. If Assamese society advances along the path shown by the two Mahapurushas, the bonds that unite Assamese society shall become even stronger. On the occasion of his Tirobhav Tithi today, the State BJP remembers Mahapurush Madhavdev in this spirit.
