Geo-Textile Work Begins to Stabilise Rail Track at New Harangajao

Hills Live News, Haflong, Sept 1: Restoration work on the damaged railway track at New Harangajao has gained momentum, with the installation of geo-textile material beginning on Line No. 2 on Tuesday to strengthen and stabilise the soil beneath the track.

Railway sources said soil settlement near New Harangajao station had damaged Lines 1 and 2. Piling and other technical works are already underway as part of the restoration process.

Geo-textile is being used to control soil erosion, improve drainage and reduce soil movement, particularly in the hilly and geologically challenging terrain.

Railway authorities are working to complete the soil stabilisation and other repair works at the earliest and make Line No. 2 fit for train operations. At present, train movement in the area is relying heavily on Line No. 3.

The commencement of geo-textile installation is being viewed as another significant step towards restoring normal and safer train operations at New Harangajao.
