Dima Hasao to be Developed as Assam’s Tourism Paradise: Ajanta Neog
Hills Live News, Haflong, Sept 27: Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog on Sunday announced a five-year master plan for the state’s tourism sector, with a special focus on developing new destinations, strengthening existing tourism circuits and positioning Dima Hasao as a major tourism destination.
Speaking at the state-level World Tourism Day 2026 celebration organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Dima Hasao Tourism at the New Tumbung Golf Course here, Neog said several tourism circuits would be developed across Assam over the next five years, with emphasis on infrastructure, connectivity and linking multiple destinations.
“Dima Hasao has the potential to become the tourism paradise of Assam,” Neog said, while describing the scenic Umrangso as the “Switzerland of the Northeast”.
The Minister stressed that improved connectivity, a conducive law-and-order environment and supportive government policies were essential for the growth of tourism. She said the government would also work towards strengthening the state’s tourism policy to unlock the potential of destinations across Assam.
Neog said tourism could be developed around the distinctive features of every region through proper planning, innovation and community participation. Highlighting the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, she said hospitality and meaningful engagement with visitors were equally important for sustainable tourism development.
Urging local residents to take greater advantage of tourism opportunities, Neog called upon them to register their homestays online and establish more homestay facilities. She said community-led tourism could generate employment and livelihood opportunities while strengthening the local economy.
The programme was attended by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa, Tourism Commissioner and Secretary Diganta Bora, Director of Tourism Ranoj Kumar Barkataki, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Rituparna Bora, senior tourism department officials, Dima Hasao Tourism officials and representatives of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council.
