4: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Thursday inaugurated a two-day Sant Mahasammelan on the theme “Reviving Indian Culture through Spiritual Knowledge” at the Sonaram H.S. School playground in Guwahati.
The programme was organised by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya said that the presence of saints and spiritual leaders gave the Mahasammelan special spiritual significance. He said their presence could inspire people towards introspection, social harmony and human welfare.
The Governor said the theme of the Mahasammelan was highly relevant at a time when the world is undergoing rapid technological and social changes. He highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage and said that the country’s knowledge tradition has always been based on spirituality, values, service and human welfare.
Referring to Assam’s spiritual heritage, Acharya recalled the contribution of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva in promoting social unity and cultural consciousness through devotion, literature, music, art and theatre.
He said spirituality does not mean withdrawal from the world but involves discovering inner strength, disciplining the mind and making life more meaningful. Despite advances in science and technology, people today need peace, emotional balance and harmony, he added.
The Governor said spirituality can help achieve such balance by promoting positive thinking, self-discipline, compassion and inner peace. He also appreciated the Brahma Kumaris for promoting Rajyoga, meditation, ethical living, positive thinking and self-discipline among people, particularly the youth.
Acharya called upon people to preserve India’s cultural heritage while embracing modern development. He said the country’s progress should remain rooted in its civilisational values and spiritual strength.
The Mahasammelan brings together saints, spiritual leaders, teachers, scholars and devotees to spread the message of peace, harmony, spiritual values and human unity.
Sattradhikar of Shri Shri Auniati Satra Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya of Ayodhya Dham, Ashutosh Maharaj of Ayodhya Dham, Rajyogini B.K. Manorama and several other saints, spiritual personalities, office-bearers of the Brahma Kumaris institution and devotees attended the programme.
