Hills Live News,Diphu October 11: Public concern and local agitation have escalated across Karbi Anglong following widespread social media reports regarding the alleged illegal transfer of 500 bighas of land in the Nambor area, which falls under the Silonijan Revenue Circle.
Civil society groups and regional bodies have raised urgent questions over whether the purported transaction constitutes a direct violation of constitutional safeguards protecting indigenous land rights under the Sixth Schedule.
The unfolding controversy centers on an unverified land transaction allegedly involving Ravison Terang and Nolin Gogoi. According to claims circulating across public forums and digital platforms since early October 2026, that such deal has taken place.
A massive contiguous plot spanning 500 bighas was transacted and sold to an individual who is a non-resident of the district, setting off alarm bells among tribal rights organizations.
As tensions rise, revenue authorities have clarified that no official land records, formal registration deeds, or specific transaction dates have been entered into official government registries or verified regarding the deal.
“We are closely monitoring the developments circulating in the public domain. However, no formal complaint or registered deed matching these claims has officially come before the revenue circle office yet,” stated a local revenue official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
In response to the unverified reports, various local organizations and activists are pressing the council administration and revenue department to initiate an immediate, transparent inquiry.
Community leaders emphasize that rigorous enforcement of the Sixth Schedule is essential to prevent unauthorized land alienation to outsiders and to preserve the demographic, cultural, and territorial integrity of indigenous populations in the autonomous district.
“The sanctity of land rights under the Sixth Schedule is non-negotiable. If public lands or tribal holdings are being illegally transferred to non-residents, authorities must act swiftly to investigate and penalize violators,” asserted a local community leader during a public discussion in Silonijan.
Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from speculation while administrative checks and official land record verifications are underway.
