ADSU Hojai Committee Seeks Protection of Tribal Land, Development Measures

Hills Live News, Hojai, September 30: The Hojai District Committee of the All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, seeking protection of tribal land and greater educational, cultural and socio-economic development for the Dimasa Kachari community in Hojai district.

The memorandum, submitted by ADSU district president Subroto Phonglo and office secretary Arun Thausen, highlighted concerns over alleged unauthorised land transfers and encroachments in the Bordolong-Lankabheta Tribal Belt.

The union sought an inquiry into alleged illegal land holdings, restoration of tribal land and strict enforcement of provisions governing the protected tribal belt.

ADSU also demanded implementation of Clause 2.2(A) of the DNLA Accord, including the inclusion of contiguous villages in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, besides seeking a Dimasa Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council for Dimasa people living outside Sixth Schedule areas.

Other demands included expansion of Dimasa Bhawan at Lanka, establishment of a Government Engineering College in Hojai and urgent improvement of infrastructure and staffing at Mosoka High School, the sole high school serving the Bordolong-Lankabheta Tribal Belt.

The union expressed hope that the government would take timely steps to address the issues and promote the socio-economic development of the Dimasa Kachari community.
