Assam Rifles Organises Three-Day Student Outreach and Civic Engagement Programme in Haflong

Haflong, June 17: Assam Rifles successfully conducted a three-day Student Community Outreach, Civic Engagement and Oral History Programme for students of the Department of English, Gurucharan University, Silchar, from June 14 to 16 at Haflong.
The programme, organised jointly by Assam Rifles and Gurucharan University, aimed to promote youth leadership, civic responsibility, national integration and community engagement among students. A total of 30 students and two faculty members from the university participated in the initiative.
During the programme, participants attended interactive sessions on civic responsibility, youth leadership and nation-building, highlighting the important role of young citizens in shaping the country’s future. Students were also given a guided tour of battalion facilities and various community development projects undertaken by Assam Rifles.
Special sessions on military ethos, discipline, teamwork, leadership and character building provided participants with valuable insights into the principles and values upheld by the Armed Forces.
The second day focused on community service and civic action. Students took part in team-building exercises and community outreach activities, including cleanliness drives, plantation campaigns and educational awareness programmes. Awareness sessions on health, hygiene and environmental conservation were also conducted for local residents.
An important highlight of the programme was the interaction between students and village elders and community leaders, enabling participants to gain first-hand knowledge of grassroots governance, social challenges and community resilience.
The final day was dedicated to oral history documentation, youth discussions and reflections on national integration. Students conducted interviews and documentation exercises to preserve valuable narratives related to local heritage, culture and community experiences.
During the valedictory function, certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and successful completion of the programme.
Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to nurturing youth leadership, preserving local heritage and supporting community development through sustained outreach and engagement initiatives across the region.
