Haflong sees hectic Final Day of Nominations as BJP, Congress, and ASDC Candidates File Papers

Haflong, March 23 — The Deputy Commissioner’s office in Haflong turned into a hub of political activity on the final day of filing nominations for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly election. Candidates from major parties arrived with large groups of supporters, creating a charged atmosphere under tight security on Monday.

Anjosh Terang of the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) was the first to submit his nomination papers early in the day. Soon after, Congress candidate Nandita Gorlosa filed her papers, accompanied by party leaders and supporters.

In a vibrant show of strength, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rupali Langthasa filed her nomination papers from the 113-Haflong (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency. She was welcomed by a massive rally of party workers and supporters, led by Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, alongside MP Amarsing Tisso, Chairman Mohet Hojai, Executive Members, and Members of the Autonomous Council. Their presence highlighted the strong backing from the BJP’s local leadership for the young candidate.

Langthasa, a rising BJP leader and 2024 MAC member, stepped forward amid cheers and blessings from karyakartas and well-wishers, turning the nomination filing into a celebratory event. Party leaders expressed gratitude for the overwhelming participation, viewing it as a symbol of unity and confidence in her ability to serve the people of Dima Hasao.

Earlier on Friday, Daniel Langthasa filed his nomination as NPP candidate. With Langthasa, Terang, Gorlosa, and Langthasa now officially in the fray, Haflong is set for an intense contest in the days ahead.
