Dima Hasao to Join Nationwide ‘Vande Mataram’ Singing on September 25

Haflong, Sept 1: Dima Hasao will join the nationwide observance marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, with students and members of the public set to sing the national song simultaneously with participants across the country on September 25.
The programme will bring together students and teachers of 11 Saraswati Vidya Mandirs in the district, besides parents and students from other schools. The initiative is aimed at taking the observance beyond school campuses and reaching both urban and rural areas of Dima Hasao.
This was announced by the Principal, Boro Haflong Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Haileukambe Nriame, at a press briefing held at the school on Tuesday. He said the nationwide programme has been initiated by Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, under which the complete Vande Mataram will be sung simultaneously at various locations across the country on September 25.
In Dima Hasao, the main programmes will be organised at Boro Haflong and Umrangso. Between 500 and 1,000 students are expected to participate at the two venues. The organisers are also working to extend the programme to different parts of the district, including rural areas.
Nriame said Vande Mataram occupies a significant place in the history of India’s freedom movement and the initiative seeks to familiarise the younger generation with the historical importance of the song.
He said the September 25 programme would not be confined to students of Saraswati Vidya Mandirs. Teachers, parents and students from other schools in Haflong and other areas would also be invited to participate in the collective rendition.
DHAC Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa is expected to attend the programme at Umrangso, while Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa is scheduled to attend the programme at Boro Haflong.
District coordinator Rahul Pareek, project head Montuiwing Jeme and Saraswati Vidya Mandir Vice-Principal Rishma Johari were among those present at the press briefing.
Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, has a prominent place in India’s national history. The song became a powerful expression of patriotism and nationalist sentiment during the freedom movement and was subsequently recognised as India’s national song.
The September 25 observance is expected to provide a common platform for students and citizens across Dima Hasao to commemorate the 150-year journey of the song and reflect on its enduring place in India’s national consciousness.
Later all the media persons were felicitated with ‘fulam gamocha’ by the members of Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan.
