Back-to-Back blazes cause panic in Diphu

HILLS LIVE NEWS, Diphu September 18: A striking series of back-to-back major fire incidents caused widespread panic across Diphu town this afternoon and evening, gutting multiple commercial establishments and a residential property. Fortunately, authorities confirmed no casualties were reported in either incident.
The first disaster struck early this afternoon near the District Industries and Commerce (DIC) Office and the main market area. According to preliminary reports, the blaze originated inside a local hardware store due to a suspected short circuit.
It quickly spiraled out of control, spreading to adjacent commercial units. Emergency services faced tense conditions as four LPG cylinders stored inside the buildings exploded in rapid succession.
At least eight air conditioning units on a nearby commercial structure were entirely destroyed by the intense heat and flames.
Later in the evening, a second unrelated fire erupted at a private residence in the Amolapatty locality. Eyewitnesses stated that rocket bomb firecrackers ignited stored paddy stocks kept on the first floor of the building.
Emergency response units, including multiple fire tenders and local police teams, rushed to both sites and successfully brought the flames under control before they could damage neighboring residential complexes.
Diphu MLA Niso Terangpi, accompanied by local Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Johny Timung, arrived at the sites to evaluate the destruction and offer support to the victims.
“Our top priority is securing immediate relief and rehabilitation for the families and business owners affected by these unfortunate incidents,” said MLA Niso Terangpi during her visit. “We have instructed the district administration to conduct a thorough damage assessment without delay.”
Local MAC Johny Timung added, “We stand firmly with the victims today. Financial assistance and essential supplies are being coordinated to ensure those affected can begin rebuilding their livelihoods.” Investigations into both incidents are currently ongoing.
