Assam marks 5th anniversary of Karbi Peace Accord

HILLS LIVE NEWS, Diphu September 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the completion of five years since the signing of the historic Karbi Peace Accord, terming the event a cornerstone in the region’s socio-economic development.

The milestone commemorates the 2021 landmark tripartite agreement signed between the Central Government, the Assam State Government, and five major Karbi insurgent outfits.

The pact effectively brought an end to decades of tribal insurgency in the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

Reflecting on the landmark in an official statement released today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the accord as a “pivotal milestone” that permanently transformed the region’s trajectory.

“The Karbi Peace Accord has successfully transitioned Karbi Anglong away from decades of conflict, opening a massive wave of development in local infrastructure, youth entrepreneurship, and tribal welfare,” stated Chief Minister Sarma.

“The trust reposed by the people of the region has allowed us to replace unrest with sustained progress, ensuring our tribal communities prosper in a peaceful environment.”

State officials noted that over the past five years, the region has seen substantial public investments in road networks, educational infrastructure, and self-employment initiatives targeted at local youth.

Peace initiatives under the framework continue to be monitored by state and central agencies to maintain long-term stability across the Autonomous District.
