Assam CM reviews preparations for grand finale of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika centenary celebrations in New Delhi

Hills Live News, Guwahati, Sept. 27: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited Bharat Mandapam in the national capital to review the facilities and preparations for the grand closing ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
The grand finale and closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of the legendary singer, composer and cultural icon will be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on November 29, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the landmark event.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the halls and reviewed the arrangements being made for the grand finale. Senior officials briefed him on the preparations and various aspects of the programme.
An exhibition showcasing the life, works and times of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the doyen of Assamese and Indian culture, will also be organised at the venue as part of the centenary celebrations. The exhibition will highlight his remarkable artistic journey, contribution to Indian music and culture, and enduring legacy.
“We are curating an unforgettable tribute, one truly befitting the legacy of Sudhakantha,” Dr Sarma said in a post on X after his visit to Bharat Mandapam.
The centenary celebrations seek to commemorate the extraordinary life and legacy of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, whose music transcended linguistic and geographical boundaries and established him as one of India’s most influential cultural figures. His compositions and songs reflected themes of humanity, social harmony, fraternity and national integration.
The grand finale in the national capital will bring together eminent personalities, artists, cultural practitioners and admirers of Dr Hazarika from across the country for a fitting culmination of the centenary celebrations.
The event will also provide a platform to showcase Assam’s rich cultural heritage and the unparalleled contribution of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika to India’s cultural landscape.
Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Commissioner & Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Padmapani Bora, Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi, Director, Information and Public Relations, Manabendra Dev Ray, among other senior officials, were present during the inspection.
