Dima Hasao Administration Observes Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s Centenary

Haflong, September 8: The Dima Hasao District Administration observed the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with a solemn and culturally vibrant programme at the District Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Haflong on Saturday.
The programme began with District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, IAS, along with Additional District Commissioners and other senior administrative officials, lighting the ceremonial lamp. Floral tributes were subsequently paid before the portrait of the legendary musician, filmmaker and cultural icon popularly known as the “Bard of the Brahmaputra.”
Addressing the gathering, District Commissioner Hyalinge highlighted Dr. Hazarika’s immense contribution to society through music and cinema. She noted that his works promoted social justice, communal harmony, humanism and universal brotherhood, transcending social and geographical boundaries.
Local speaker Dinesh Sharma spoke at length about Dr. Hazarika’s life, works and contributions to society. He said the maestro’s timeless compositions continue to inspire people and remain relevant in promoting unity and harmony among diverse communities.
Adding a musical dimension to the commemoration, Sharma rendered Dr. Hazarika’s iconic humanitarian song “Bistirno Parore”, drawing an emotional response from the audience. A chorus group also performed a rendition of the celebrated song, further enhancing the cultural spirit of the occasion.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. Officials and participants paid tribute to Dr. Hazarika’s enduring legacy and expressed their commitment to carrying forward his ideals of humanity, harmony and cultural unity in the hills of Dima Hasao.
