Memorial Meeting Held for Former Student Leader and Cultural Activist Sushil Kakati.

Hills Live News, Morigaon, September 22: A memorial meeting was held today at the residence of late Sushil Kakati (Lakhi), a former student leader and noted cultural activist of Morigaon, at Barangabari.
The memorial meeting, presided over by former student leader and established businessman Devakanta Bora, also witnessed the release of a memorial volume titled “Sushil in the Green Pages of Memory”, edited by Morigaon District Sahitya Sabha organising secretary Pranjal Bora. The book, reflecting the eventful life and multifaceted contributions of Sushil Kakati, was formally released by senior journalist and president of the All Assam Rural Library Association, Pratap Hazarika.
Morigaon District Sahitya Sabha secretary Kushal Kumar Bora, District Employees’ Council secretary Khagen Mahanta, Joyanta Kumar Hazarika, principal of Motiram Bora Adarsha Madhyamik Vidyalaya at Barangabari, Ramesh Chandra Kakati, principal of Manaha Madhyamik Vidyalaya, and several other distinguished personalities attended the solemn programme and paid heartfelt tributes to Sushil Kakati, popularly known as Lakhi Kakati, recalling their association with him and his contributions to society and culture.
The programme was conducted by Gahan Chandra Bora and Indreswar Bora. At the beginning of the event, Giren Bora lit a ceremonial lamp before the portrait of the late Sushil Kakati.
It may be mentioned that Sushil Kakati passed away prematurely at the age of 57 on August 22 after suffering from high blood pressure. He was the president of the Barangabari Branch Sahitya Sabha, founding president of the Barangabari Rongali Bihu Sanmilani, and was also a talented actor and accomplished theatre director.
