Goria Parishad and Moria Community Sammilani Extend Open Support to BJP in Nagaon Lok Sabha Bypoll

Hills Live News, Guwahati. Sept 22: The Assam Goria Parishad and the Moria Jatiya Sammilani have openly announced their support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election.
At a joint press conference held today at the conference hall of the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association office, leaders of the two organisations appealed to nearly two lakh people belonging to their communities, as well as all voters of the constituency, to vote overwhelmingly for BJP-nominated candidate Debashish Sharma in the interest of the overall development of the constituency, peace and communal harmony, social stability and public security.
The leaders said that Nagaon is one of the most important Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam. They said its development is not confined to the progress of any particular region or community, but encompasses the overall development of education, healthcare, agriculture, employment opportunities for the youth, communication infrastructure, industries, flood and erosion-related problems, the rural economy and social security, among other sectors.
They alleged that the Congress party and its government had, during the previous period, completely betrayed the people of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency as well as nearly 40 lakh people belonging to the Goria and Moria communities of Assam.
In contrast, the leaders claimed that the BJP-led NDA government has been seen paying attention to the grievances and demands of the Goria and Moria communities living in the state.
The organisations have also urged the government to complete the caste-based survey at the earliest. They expressed hope that, on the basis of the survey, the Goria and Moria communities would be recognised as indigenous communities.
It was with this objective in mind that the Assam Goria Parishad and the Moria Jatiya Sammilani extended their open support to the BJP, the leaders said.
The two organisations have, at various times, brought to the attention of the government issues concerning the development and protection of the rights of the Goria, Moria and other indigenous communities of Assam. The leaders said they would continue to raise these demands in the days ahead.
Among those present at the press conference were Assam Goria Parishad central committee chief adviser Omar Faruk, president Abdul Hamid, working president Nurul Haque, general secretary Moinul Haque, Morigaon and Nagaon district committee presidents Amin Uddin Ali Ahmed and Wasif Alam respectively, Moria Jatiya Sammilani central committee president Tafikul Islam, working president Alim Uddin Ahmed, organising secretary Yasin Ali, cultural secretary J. A. Naser and spokesperson Imdadul Haque.
