Educationist Paresh Baishya Conferred Rotary Jnanjyoti Award

Hills Live News, Guwahati, Sept 26: Eminent educationist, writer-journalist and retired Principal of Dadara Higher Secondary School, Paresh Baishya, was conferred the Rotary Jnanjyoti Award 2026-27 by the Rotary Club of Guwahati South on September 25.
The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of education during his teaching career and the remarkable transformation he brought to Dadara Higher Secondary School during his tenure as its Principal through creative academic and administrative practices.
Even after retirement, Baishya has continued to work for the advancement of education. He established the Paresh Baishya Foundation, a trust dedicated to educational development. Through its mobile school initiative, “Pohor Vidyalaya,” he has been spending his pension to provide educational guidance to more than two lakh students across Assam, thereby becoming an inspiration to many.
The award was formally presented to him at a solemn function held at the Rajdhani Regency Hotel in Guwahati.
Accepting the award, Baishya said that he has always loved honouring others. He said that over the past nearly two decades, through the Paresh Baishya Foundation, he had honoured numerous distinguished educationists, litterateurs and social workers.
Former Principal of Cotton College, Professor Indra Kumar Bhattacharyya, attended the function as the chief guest, while Bibhas Das Purkayastha was present as the guest of honour.
Rotary Club of Guwahati South president Manjushree Barua, club secretary Dr. Anjana Choudhury Saikia, Literary Chair Ranjan Bhuyan, along with several office-bearers and well-wishers of the Rotary Club of Guwahati South, were present at the programme.
