DHAC EM inaugurstes Training on medicinal, aromatic plant cultivation held at Haflong

Hills Live News, Haflong, Sept 21: Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Monjay Langthasa inaugurated the one-day training programme on “Promotion of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Cultivation in NEH Region for Livelihood Security” which was held on Monday at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Haflong, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable agriculture and creating new livelihood opportunities for farmers in Dima Hasao.
The programme was organised by the ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research in collaboration with the All India Coordinated Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Bioactive Principles (AICRP-MAPB), Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, and KVK, Dima Hasao.
Addressing the programme, the EM Langthasa said medicinal and aromatic plants have considerable potential to diversify traditional farming practices, strengthen rural incomes and create new economic opportunities for farming communities in the hill district.
The representative stressed the need to connect farmers with scientific knowledge, modern agricultural practices and emerging livelihood opportunities to promote a self-reliant and sustainable rural economy in Dima Hasao.
The programme was attended by DHAC Executive Member Probita Johori, Dr Manish Kumar Mittal, Scientist and Head, KVK Dima Hasao, Dr Pranjal Kaman of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, and Dr Shankar Gogoi of KVK Dima Hasao, among others.
The organisers said promotion of medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation could provide farmers with an additional source of income while encouraging sustainable and diversified agricultural practices suited to the region.
