People of Dima Hasao Seek Empathetic, People-Oriented Leadership
Tribal Voice News
Haflong, March 3:
The people of Dima Hasao have voiced a strong desire for a new kind of leadership—one rooted in empathy, inclusivity, and unity. Residents across the district emphasized that their next MLA should be a leader who genuinely cares for citizens irrespective of caste, creed, or religion, reflecting the diverse fabric of the region where several tribes and non-tribal communities have coexisted for generations.
In recent years, many leaders have been criticized as “one-timers,” accused of remaining silent during times of need and surfacing only during election season with lofty promises. Citizens expressed frustration over what they see as self-oriented politics, where personal ambition outweighs public service.
Community members stressed that the next representative must demonstrate qualities of good administration and a people-first approach. They highlighted the importance of a leader who can foster unity among members of the Autonomous Council, warning against divisive politics. “United leadership is always acceptable,” one resident remarked, adding that partisan games have no place in local governance.
As election season approaches, the call from Dima Hasao is clear: the people want a leader who listens, who acts, and who stands above narrow political interests to serve the district with integrity and compassion.
